Arcnode Remote

Frequently asked questions

Short answers about Arcnode Remote. For step-by-step instructions, see the help.

Is Arcnode Remote free?

Arcnode Remote is a free download for Windows. Getting help costs nothing and doesn't need an account.

To help others, you need an Arcnode account that the Arcnode team has given helper access.

Do I need an account?

Not to get help. Only helpers sign in, with their Arcnode account.

Does it work on Mac or Linux?

No. Arcnode Remote runs on Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit, on both computers.

Can a helper see my screen without my permission?

No. Nothing is shared until you select Allow, and you choose what they may do: view only, control, or clipboard. You can disconnect at any moment.

The only exception is any-time access, and only when you turned it on for that helper yourself.

Can a helper connect again later?

Only if you gave them any-time access. Otherwise every session needs a new code and your OK. A code works once and expires after 10 minutes.

How do I turn off any-time access?

From the Arcnode Remote icon in the Windows tray, or in Settings in the app. You can turn it off at any moment. More about any-time access.

Is the connection encrypted?

Yes, end to end. Sessions use Noise XX with X25519, ChaCha20-Poly1305 and BLAKE2s. Both computers have a device key, and a short verification code lets you check that nobody is in between.

Can Arcnode see my screen?

No. Over the internet, the Arcnode relay only forwards encrypted bytes. It doesn't have the keys to read them.

Arcnode doesn't record or store screens, keystrokes, clipboard contents or files. The relay logs event names only, never addresses, codes, accounts or contents.

What does "Verified Arcnode account" mean?

Arcnode confirmed the helper's name and picture from their Arcnode account, so you know who you are talking to. It doesn't mean they work for Arcnode.

When a name can't be confirmed, Arcnode Remote shows a warning instead. Only continue if you know the person.

Someone called and asked me to install this. What should I do?

Hang up. Arcnode, Microsoft and banks never call you to offer help with your computer. Only use a code from someone you contacted yourself, or someone you know.

How do I get my keyboard and mouse back?

Press Ctrl + Alt + Shift + S or Ctrl + Alt + Del. That always gives them back.

During private input, which lasts 3 minutes at most, your input is paused until your helper is done. Ctrl + Alt + Del still works.

How do I uninstall Arcnode Remote?

Open Windows Settings, go to Apps > Installed apps, find Arcnode Remote and choose Uninstall. It's installed for your Windows user only, so you don't need administrator rights.
